The saying goes “It’s my way or the highway” – well in my case it’s a little different, “my way is the NoWHEY”. Let me explain what I mean.
I want to empower everyone to live the way they wish to live. With joy and confidence in their choices of food products. To live a conscious and healthy lifestyle, we need a food brand that is endlessly inspiring, from the way the product is produced to the relationship it has with our customers, till their dinner (or breakfast) table.
I am Claus Rosenberg Gotthard a Danish-born serial-entrepreneur, Founder & CEO of NoWHEY and I would like to tell you WHY we decided to build this company.
My wife Monica and I spent Christmas of 2016 in Thailand, visiting our son (my stepson) as he was working there as a dive instructor. Sebastian is a passionate diver and he was starting to feel guilty about enjoying the fish in the sea, respecting them and admiring them for the incredible creatures they are and then sit down for dinner and eat one of them.
He decided to act on this and became vegan. Spending a week with him and hearing his point of view got Monica and I think. When we returned from our trip, we started questioning our own choices in food choices which lead us to investigate and study the whole plant-based food diet.
One day – after another great Netflix documentary – we looked at each other and decided to go for a plant-based lifestyle immediately ‘cold turkey’ (pun intended). We stood up, went to the kitchen and threw away everything containing animal products. I have worked as a chef for several years so we’ve always had a well-stocked kitchen.
When we made the switch we both found that the quality of dairy alternatives was often subpar to the regular dairy products such as milk, yoghurt and cheese. Good plant-based ice cream, for instance, was almost impossible to find.
After the switch to a plant-based diet, our relationship with food changed, we also became more aware of how much waste we were producing in our household, even after changing to this diet, even when we were doing our best.
Monica and I relocated to Lisbon in August 2018 and began playing around with the thought of building a brand around these new values. With NoWHEY we wish to build a brand that is founded on strong values of plant-based, sustainable and zero waste materials, with high-quality products made with the simplest of ingredients.
Our dream is that NoWHEY becomes a brand that you connect with, that you proud to be associated with, a brand that inspires you to become healthier and care more for our planet. We wish to educate (also to learn) and share breakthroughs related to health and the environment and make it easy for like-minded people to connect and enjoy amazing quality plant-based food alternatives
Through our delicious mylks, creamy yogurt and to-die-for ice cream, we wish to become a supporter of your lifestyle choice and by building a community hope that will find support and encouragement for a healthy lifestyle – not only benefiting your body but also our planet
